The strand is located in an area that is rich in heritage, with dramas and traditions dating back centuries. From the legends of sunken treasure to infamy as ships' "graveyard of the south", Ballybrannigan is a hidden and beautiful gem along a stretch of coastline with an embarrassment of riches.

Full of character and interesting stories, the strand and its surrounding area are a treasure in the local community and beyond.

Ballybrannigan has historically been a home to generations of people and today is a home to a blend of multi-generational locals and of newly-settled members of the community, welcomed with open arms to a most beautiful part of East Cork.

In recent times, the strand itself has served as a meeting place for organisations such as the Cope Foundation, who regularly use the strand for recreation and for people far and wide to swim, walk the dog or just enjoy the wonderful sea breeze with the sand beneath their feet.

Unfortunately, the strand's access path has suffered some damage throughout the years and was forced to close. However, as a local councillor explains, much-needed repairs are in the works this Summer.
